Also in 2021, sunrise on the South Pole is 20 September 16:08 UTC, and sunset on the North Pole is 24 September 22:30 UTC. For example, in 2021 sunrise on the North Pole is 18 March 07:09 UTC, and sunset on the South Pole is 22 March 13:08 UTC. For a brief period lasting approximately four days, both North and South Poles are in daylight. As a result, the northern and southern hemispheres are equally illuminated.įor the same reason, this is also the time when the Sun rises for an observer at one of Earth's rotational poles and sets at the other. The equinoxes are the only times when the solar terminator (the "edge" between night and day) is perpendicular to the equator. ĭiagram of the Earth's seasons as seen from the south. The Antikythera mechanism predicts the equinoxes and solstices. Ancient Greek calendars too had the beginning of the year either at the autumnal or vernal equinox and some at solstices. In the northern hemisphere, the vernal equinox (March) conventionally marks the beginning of spring in most cultures and is considered the start of the New Year in the Assyrian calendar, Hindu, and the Persian or Iranian calendars, while the autumnal equinox (September) marks the beginning of autumn. Later it was realized that this happens on a day when the duration of the day and the night are practically equal and the word "equinox" comes from Latin aequus, meaning "equal", and nox, meaning "night". Systematically observing the sunrise, people discovered that it occurs between two extreme locations at the horizon and eventually noted the midpoint between the two. Hemisphere-neutral names are northward equinox for the March equinox, indicating that at that moment the solar declination is crossing the celestial equator in a northward direction, and southward equinox for the September equinox, indicating that at that moment the solar declination is crossing the celestial equator in a southward direction.ĭaylight is increasing on the vernal equinox and decreasing on the autumnal equinox.Įquinoxes on Earth General Leap years and other factors cause the dates of both events to vary slightly. During the year, equinoxes alternate with solstices. In the Southern Hemisphere, the reverse is true. In the Northern Hemisphere, the March equinox is called the vernal or spring equinox while the September equinox is called the autumnal or fall equinox. As a consequence, according to a properly constructed and aligned sundial, the daytime duration is 12 hours. Long before conceiving this equality, primitive equatorial cultures noted the day when the Sun rises due east and sets due west, and indeed this happens on the day closest to the astronomically defined event. They are not exactly equal, however, because of the angular size of the Sun, atmospheric refraction, and the rapidly changing duration of the length of day that occurs at most latitudes around the equinoxes. On the day of an equinox, daytime and nighttime are of approximately equal duration all over the planet. The word is derived from the Latin aequinoctium, from aequus (equal) and nox ( genitive noctis) (night). The instants of the equinoxes are currently defined to be when the apparent geocentric longitude of the Sun is 0° and 180°. In modern times, since the Moon (and to a lesser extent the planets) causes Earth's orbit to vary slightly from a perfect ellipse, the equinox is officially defined by the Sun's more regular ecliptic longitude rather than by its declination. Equivalently, this is the moment when Earth's rotation axis is directly perpendicular to the Sun-Earth line, tilting neither toward nor away from the Sun. More precisely, an equinox is traditionally defined as the time when the plane of Earth's equator passes through the geometric center of the Sun's disk. This occurs twice each year, around 20 March and 23 September. On the day of the equinox, the Sun appears to rise "due east" and set "due west". Equinoxes and solstices on Earth eventĪ solar equinox is a moment in time when the Sun crosses the Earth's equator, which is to say, appears directly above the equator, rather than north or south of the equator.

Both read the same Bible, and pray to the same God and each invokes His aid against the other. Each looked for an easier triumph, and a result less fundamental and astounding. Neither anticipated that the cause of the conflict might cease with, or even before, the conflict itself should cease. Neither party expected for the war, the magnitude, or the duration, which it has already attained. To strengthen, perpetuate, and extend this interest was the object for which the insurgents would rend the Union, even by war while the government claimed no right to do more than to restrict the territorial enlargement of it. All knew that this interest was, somehow, the cause of the war. These slaves constituted a peculiar and powerful interest. One eighth of the whole population were colored slaves, not distributed generally over the Union, but localized in the Southern part of it. Both parties deprecated war but one of them would make war rather than let the nation survive and the other would accept war rather than let it perish. While the inaugeral address was being delivered from this place, devoted altogether to saving the Union without war, insurgent agents were in the city seeking to destroy it without war - seeking to dissole the Union, and divide effects, by negotiation. On the occasion corresponding to this four years ago, all thoughts were anxiously directed to an impending civil-war. The Kikusui not only increases amp reliability, but also helps keep the sound constant, as Hill explains. “From experience, I know exactly what to expect,” he says Hill monitors the output of each amp on an oscilloscope. So, after speaking to people like Mike, I started looking at power supplies and found this. We had Brian’s rig on one UPS and the rest of the backline on another, and I realised after we’d got home that we hadn’t had too many amps go down, maybe two or three during the entire tour. “On the first American Queen + Paul Rodgers tour we used a UPS, which is basically a big battery that provides a stable voltage. “It came along by accident, really,” he says. Malandrone’s enamoured and, after telling us how much one of these units costs (clue: a lot!), continues to sing its praises. With these AC30s I’ve measured the voltages, that’s what we got and that’s what the power supply is set to.”Ī detail of one of May’s main trio of AC30s, as initially modified by Australian engineer Greg Fryer for the We Will Rock You theatre show “That generates all the correct voltages inside and, by giving it exactly what it was designed for, you get a really reliable situation. “Every amplifier has an optimum voltage that it requires, and in the case of an AC30 it’s 234V AC at 50Hz,” says Hill. Irrespective of where May is in the world, the unit will take the local mains and supply his backline with constant power at a voltage and frequency set by Malandrone. The panacea for this long life is an unassuming piece of kit that lurks at the bottom of the live rack: a Kikusui PCR1000M power supply designed for the medical industry. We’re quite surprised by this, considering how hard May runs his amps. “We remove any stray material before running it through the test gear.”Īmongst the stray material discovered in the amps being serviced today are strips of gold foil intrinsic to the confetti cannon finale at show’s end last time out. “First, we check the earth’s on within the chassis and make sure that everything is mechanically solid, because obviously things do become loose over time,” he explains. We first ask him to describe exactly what the servicing of an AC30 entails. Since setting up his own business in 1995, he has cultivated an enviable client list. Hill cut his teeth at Marshall Amplification, joining the company in 1970 and, amongst many other achievements, developed the lauded JCM800 2203 head. It’s all go for Team May as full production rehearsals for Queen’s Summer Festival tour are imminent and, with Brian holed up in a recording studio somewhere, we’ve taken the chance to catch up with both Malandrone and engineer Mike Hill, who’s preparing to service the amps in readiness for the rigours of the road. May has been cranking out classic riffs and solos from his stage-left standpoint since 1970 The top row incorporates three dummy AC30s that carry Malandrone’s stockpile of spare speakers, which explains why we actually see nine up there onstage. The trio immediately above them are on standby, ready to replace any of the main amps should they go down, and the final two of the octet are placed just offstage in case of dire emergencies. The current live backline comprises eight AC30s configured as follows: three are angled away from May, with the dry guitar signal running through the centre amp and the wet signal, courtesy of a TC Electronic G-Major 2 and a rackmount Dunlop Cry Baby, fed into the amps sat to its left and right. But no, I’ve never really seen him use anything but an AC30.” He tried Matchless for a while and also had, of all things, a Gallien-Krueger amp that was like a little suitcase. “He recently bought a little Marshall valve combo for recording, just for something different, but he never actually used it. “He’s probably sold more amps for Vox than anybody else,” suggests Pete Malandrone, May’s long-serving guitar tech. One major difference between salaried employees and hourly paid employees is overtime eligibility. The figures mentioned above are good approximations and are considered to be the standard. The hourly wage calculation may differ slightly depending on the worked hours per week and the annual vacation allowance. To convert salary into hourly wage the above formula is used (assuming 5 working days in a week and 8 working hours per day which is the standard for most jobs). Salaried jobs pay a fixed amount regardless of the hours worked. Usually, jobs are classified into two categories: salaried jobs and hourly jobs. The hourly wage is the salary paid in one worked hour. Hourly Wage = Annual Salary / ( 52 x 5 x 8 ) The reason is quite simple: it is easier to quantify your value to the company in monetary terms when you participate in revenue generation. Revenue generators usually get more and higher bonuses, higher salaries, and more frequent salary increments. Their expertise is usually different from that of the core business operations.Ī graphics designer working for a graphics designing company.Ī graphic designer in the marketing department of a hospital. A commission is a prefixed rate at which someone gets paid for items sold or deals completed while a bonus is in most cases arbitrary and unplanned. People tend to confuse bonuses with commissions. Only 5% of individuals have salaries exceeding 104,000 USD. About 20% of salaries are below the 62,500 USD mark, while 10% fall within the range of 90,800 USD to 104,000 USD. The majority of reported salaries, approximately 65%, fall within the range of 62,500 USD to 90,800 USD. This approach provides a more precise representation of salary distribution for the job title Air Traffic Controller in Oklahoma compared to simply calculating the average. To provide a better understanding of expected salaries, we categorized the frequently occurring salaries into different ranges. Similarly, the chart shows that 75% earn less than 120,000 USD while 25% earn more. By examining the salary distribution chart, it can be determined that 25% of professionals employed as Air Traffic Controller in Oklahoma earn less than 84,100 USD, while 75% earn more. The median is closely associated with two other values known as the 25th and 75th percentiles. Ideally, you would want to belong to the group earning more than the median salary, located on the right side of the salary distribution graph. The median salary denotes the middle value of salaries. With a median salary of 104,000 USD, half of the professionals who work as Air Traffic Controller in Oklahoma earn less than this amount, and the other half earn more. It should be noted that the given figure is not the legally mandated minimum wage rather, it represents the lowest figure reported in a salary survey that included thousands of participants and professionals from all regions of the country. Salaries for the position Air Traffic Controller in Oklahoma range from 50,200 USD (starting salary) to 174,000 USD (maximum salary).
Wow thank you so much for the detailed post! I had no idea gamma guts worked like that while moving though I do already share a lot of your viewpoints on mutations. Originally posted by Tripoteur Ventripotent:Strong Spirit is indeed widely considered the best mutation. Whenever he's seriously injured, he becomes nearly unkillable as the area in front of him becomes both a shield that bullets cannot pass through and a zone where enemies take a surprisingly large amount of damage. You'd be surprised how well Steroids can do with Long Arms, Stress and two Golden Wrenches autoswung out of sync. Some Throne Butts are amazing, others are garbage.Īnd of course there are really specialized builds. Rebel's active means she'll always be 4 or 6 under her max HP, and her portal healing depends on her max HP, so Rhino Skin and Stress are better for her than most other characters. Some characters benefit more from some mutations than others. If you're going for distance, Bloodlust is better, but if you're going for the Captain, Second Stomach might be a better choice. If you're offered Bolt Marrow early on with the other mutation choices being somewhat poor (say Extra Legs, Shotgun Shoulders, Open Mind, Euphoria), it might be best to accept that this character is going to be specializing in Bolt weapons. You can try for a specific build, or just let the game inform your choices. Of course, mutation choices depend on what build you're going for and what you're going to do with it. Standing on IDPD portals will make you kill IDPD as soon as they spawn. Even without Scarier Face, a bit of damage will get the snowbots into Gamma Guts range, so you just need to damage them a little before they reach you. If you have Scarier Face, you can even ignore charging snowbots entirely as long as you're moving, they'll simply die when they touch you. With Gamma Guts, a lot of enemies will just die on contact with you without dealing their own contact damage. Perhaps the most undervalued mutation is Gamma Guts, for its defensive properties. Shotgun Shoulders is the exception since it's on the weak side, but it's still fun to see what it'll do to a Super Flak Cannon used in an enclosed space. In explosive weapons' case, it makes you not die from your own attacks. Specialized mutations (most notably Bolt Marrow, Long Arms and Laser Brain) work about as you'd expect they make their relevant weapon type far, far, far better. If you need it, Second Stomach is much better for bosses and synergizes with Rabbit Paw Plutonium Hunger also synergizes with Rabbit Paw. Stuff like Rhino Skin and Rabbit Paw are nearly always good too.īloodlust is good, especially on loop, and usually all you need for healing. I personally consider it to be at least as good as Strong Spirit. Scarier Face is always great, it helps you eliminate threats before they can attack you and you spend less ammo per kill. Strong Spirit is indeed widely considered the best mutation. If you take Anomaly with Horror you can often clear a level with one shot. Combined with Crown of Blood, it can cause a single kill to set off a huge chain reaction. You can fire a shot into a crowd and turn to fire another shot in the other direction almost immediately.Īnother mutation I find quite useful in the loop is Impact Wrists. It makes powerful guns like Super Plasma Cannon much more user-friendly. Trigger Fingers would rank 4th on my list that I cut off at 3. Stress lets you go crazy with DPS or use a Shovel to plow through enemy projectiles with ease. Super Crossbow can shred through a lot of small enemies at once with Bolt Marrow's homing. Originally posted by Mire:Alrighty so back muscle, plutonium hunger, open mind, bolt marrow/shotgun shoulders, stress, extra feet, last wish, eagle eye, sharp teeth, recycle gland and trigger fingers are the ones I generally don't take unless I have no choice.Of these, I find Bolt Marrow, Stress, and Trigger Fingers can be really powerful in the late-game. Yes, it costs around a little more, but it does take performance to another level. It boasts a more advanced DAC chip than the model-down Red, plus a new microprocessor that draws less current and bumps up the DAC's processing speed. The USB DAC resembles a UBS stick/key and plugs straight into a laptop or PC's USB-A socket, or a phone via a dongle adapter. While from a performance point of view the Award-winning Mojo 2 can just as confidently raise a hi-fi system’s game too, some of those looking for a system boost might reasonably prefer a dedicated system alternative with more suitable connections, such as the Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M. And while those familiar with Chord’s most affordable product will see from the accompanying image that the aesthetic hasn’t exactly been overhauled for the sequel, significant progress has been made elsewhere to protect its position as the pinnacle of portable DACs. The fittingly named Mojo 2 is the long-anticipated, re-engineered replacement to the 2015-released original Mojo, which burst onto the scene as a real benchmark-setting game-changer in the then-fledgling world of portable DACs/headphone amps. Read our full iFi Zen DAC V2 review The best portable DAC The Zen Air DAC is even more affordable, but we're yet to put that one through its paces. Offering a significant upgrade over computer sound quality in an era where people need it most, the Zen DAC V2 is another feather in the cap for iFi’s budget Zen series. At the other end is another Pentaconn balanced output, which sits alongside the more conventional 6.3mm socket. This budget DAC, which can be USB or mains powered (though a mains adapter doesn’t come in the box), is excellent in both the features and performance department for the money.Īt one end is a USB Type B input, plus RCA line-level and 4.4mm Pentaconn balanced outputs. The output of the Zen DAC can be switched between fixed and variable, meaning the iFi can operate as a digital preamp if you so wish. They pay off, as the DAC's current What Hi-Fi? Award-winning status demonstrates. It’s what iFi has done with its budget home DAC and headphone amp offering, with the original Zen DAC now making way for a ‘V2’ model that offers improvements in terms of processing, MQA decoding and circuitry. But at the same time we realise that in a competitive industry such as hi-fi, making the best even better off your own back isn’t necessarily a bad idea. The ‘if it ain’t broke…’ saying isn’t lost on us. The very best DACs, such as those listed below, will make your hi-fi, desktop or portable audio system sing, but something sub-optimal – or sticking to the ones used in regular do-it-all components like those mentioned above – will prevent you from getting the most out of your set-up. So they play an instrumental part in making digital music worthwhile for many of us. Indeed, without a DAC your digital music collection is nothing but a sizeable collection of “0s and 1s” that makes sense only within the digital domain. (Essentially, if a digital device has a headphone jack or another audio output, know that it has a DAC built-in.) Any device that delivers digital sound – be it a laptop, games console, portable music player or phone – requires a DAC to convert its digital audio to an analogue signal before it can be output to speakers, headphones or another analogue device. You might not realise it, but most of us make use of at least one digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) every single day.
